19-20 July. Tromso

Tromso. Northern Cathedral

After the walking trip through the Soroja our way were leading to the Tromso. This small city is famous because of its many historical expeditions.
According to the raid rules, every crew is writing a little report with the previously chosen title connected to Scandinavia. The final version of it you can see here.

We were driving all night long and on the porch of the Tromso were no free place for camping – the July is a pretty hot tourist season. The temperature of the air is +13 and there is a raining. According to map we have found the appropriate hotel. We were parking near it but the administration has shown up only at 8 a.m. That was only 6 a.m. so we’ve decided to sleep a little. We were woken up by the bumping into our window. That was a determined woman (pretty and young) in the police uniform. She was curious why we were sleeping at the forbidden place. We have explained. We haven’t been penalized for the 10000 kilometers from Scandinavia, and that was the first (and last) contact with police. We have even intersected with military forces in the Finland, while occasionally have reached the borderlands.
So it is the geophysical observatory near the Ramfjordmoena on the 30 kilometers on the North from Tromso.

Atmospheric radar

According to the year period the scientists were few in numbers, but they have met us very fine.

Phased array

They have told us what are they doing (sometimes this eggheads are warm the high layers of the atmosphere to few million degrees), shown us the antennas and the other instruments of station, which they were using for looking on the north lights. The lab is specially located surrounded by layers of the land to avoid the negative influence on the contacting devises. It is also stand near the powerful electro station.

After this we have gone back to the Tromso. One of the most prominent memorials of the city is a cathedral church. It is the most northern in Scandinavia.

There are not many old buildings have remain because of the wooden structure and the blazes, which have been destroyed the city periodically.

The ones what have survived is in good state. That was the city during our walking time.

Our next meeting with Norwegian scientists had happened during our visit of the Metrological Institute. The hall of this knowledge temple is decorated with fresco of the Odin with the hammer in hand, while driving the chariot in city sky.

In the lobby of the Institute of Meteorology

Near the entrance there is a white polar bear, whose meet the gests.

More details about meteorologists you can find in the report. Our way was leading to the Polar Institute and Polaria center, which is the one of its parts.

In the aquarium are living three female seal. This is beautiful and graceful animals, whose are swimming through the aquarium like torpedoes. It is a shame that males can’t live in cages. In small aquarium you can see closely the big, small fishes and also other marine livers.

Troms?. July. +14.

Tromso is the of of the most interesting cities we have visited in that raid. It is special. There are dug tunnels in the mountain, where the parking zone is. This is entire underground hamlet with the first underground circle movement part.
On the net day we have proceeded forward and during it we have visited the pretty roadside saams’s caf?. You can drink coffee, which was cooked in burned kettle on fire and eat the cup of the deer’s meat soup.
