10 July. Finland. Passing the night on nature

We have encamped for the night by the edge of the forest in the wild place. Our first “cusage savage”! Honestly it was near the remote farm. Mosquitoes were terrible naturally. We had to spray each other with any insect repellents.

Also we have tested the local lotion “terrva”. It is made from wood resin. This potion is very effective against the mosquitoes because of the strong smell of the tar.

Next morning we were looking for route. In the Finnish real forest our GPS-devices didn’t work, so we had come back the camp several times.

Roots

There are very picturesque places and a forest, which is everywhere, and many clear lakes. During our journey in Scandinavia we were often drinking raw water from the streams and lakes. No accidents has happened.

Forest road to Kajaani

In the Alassalmi strait on the lake Ouluj?rvi we are carried with the yellow cable ferry. And there are nobody only ourselves on it!

Alassalmi. Паром

Alassalmi. Ferry

The weather is good but not always. As a rule there were a lot of rainfall during last raids, but we are lucky.

Yellow Ferry

This ferry somehow reminds me the yellow submarine from the Bittles’ song.

Green and blue colors

Even the irrigation channel looks pretty.

Footprint

There is my footprint on the shore near Hankasalmi.

Hankasalmi

There are a big sandy beach with shallow. Local sand is mixed with yellow crystalline mineral, which particles are sparkling like golden rain.

We have found also a small forest lake nearby. The fish are swimming in the transparent water between the fallen trees.

Forest lake

In the lake water is blue with green shades of the forest.

Trees in the water

Countryside

On our route we have picked up the “historical” hamlet with a traditional farmstead.  The hay is gathered and stored in the traditional stacks but isn’t in the modern bales covered with plastic. The firewood are heaped casually. Usually they are collected very carefully in the pile near the shed.

Next our point of destination is the Finnish town Kajaani. Kajaani is one of the most friendly towns visited by us in Finland. This is a center of the famous tourist region Kainuu.

Summer in Kajaani

The judgment and the buffet lunch have been very good. At the same time several wedding ceremonies were occurring in the town. There was nothing special, really. The brides were going a walk to the ruins of the little castle near the old bridge. In the ancient times this region was famous in the resin and wooden coal making. They were carried in the barrel down the river. That reminds me the journey of the hobbit and the dwarfs. The Professor was fond of learning the Finnish language. :)

9 July. Finnish lifestyle

Our journey continues through Finland according to the roadbook. Moving for the route is just one part of the adventure. Also we have to make shots about various topics. One of them is “The Finnish lifestyle”.

Finnish Way of Life

The wooden platform with benches is built on the lake.

Gangway

July turns out the hot one. The sky is amusing us with blueness. The roadsides are planted with lupines.

Meadow, forest, water

The big stone had saved the life of three high pines at the felling.

Pines

Little islands on the lakes are decorated with green hats.

Lake

Merchants in small towns were selling the strawberry. My attention was chased by this vertical flower bed in shape of two helixes made of white and red flowers.

Flowers

From the little bridge we have caught sight of a beard of the merman in the lake.

Seaweed

We were especially amazed by the small, well-groomed orthodox church. The pathway to it was lost in the high grass.

8 July. Country of thousands of lakes and islands

All day we went for a car through the scenic forest roads on the South of Finland.

Lake

There is a true about thousands of lakes and islands. Especially we were impressed by innocence of surrounding nature. You can’t feel the presence of the Mankind. There are wooden platforms, little houses and boats.

Beautiful nature

We didn’t see any locks or graffiti on the walls.

We spent evening in the camping near the warm lake with a magnificent sandy beach. The sunset lasted for four hours, reminding about that we were already on the North.

I have made sure that Finland is a tourist paradise. (Not advertising).

7 July. Helsinki

In the early morning we have arrived the Helsinki. I like the ferry carried us. This is a touristic attraction. It is moving throw the sea by day, so you got time to sleep in cabin or dance at disco. The buffet lunch costs 9 euro and everything is tasty.

This is my first photo of the Finnish capital. Helsinki is a small city in comparison with Paris (with town-satellites there is one million people) but the largest city in Finland.

Helsinki

There is also the scancen, but it’s more modest. Somehow I have remembered only this seagull.

The main boulevard is decorated with the monuments and people relax on the green lawns.

The market square looks like Maidan of Independence in Kyiv from the distance.

A caf? is situated on the deсk of the old-fashioned red steamy-steamer.

The big surprise for me become a friendly and generous reception in the France’s embassy. All our teams had met the Ambassador and the military attache of France Republic in Finland. They were charismatic women. The meeting was made very well with gourmet French cooking and Finnish hospitality.

6 July. Scansen

One of the most attractive tourist places of Stockholm – the Scansen. This is the first open-air museum in the world. It looks really impressive. Beautiful hills with 150 architectural objects (the ancient houses, churches, belfry and others) from all over the country demonstrate lifestyle of the traditional Sweden. Characters in the national costumes are met everywhere. There are an open-air zoo with various Scandinavian animals,  a vintage restaurant, an old-fashioned pharmacy and a bakery. The adult ticket is cost 35 euro.

Everything has good look, staff speak in English. There is also a big concert place.

A picturesque edifice

A rose garden

A hut for storing

No wonder everybody gots a good mood.

The roses with exotic names smell very well. But the evening is coming and we have to go out. We are going to ship by the Stockholm – Helsinki ferry.

6 July. Sweden. Stockholm

We have arrived in Stockholm very early in the morning, before the sun rises over the water.

The city is situated on 14 islands.

Stockholm

There are majestic architecture, numerous palaces, many outdoors statues and old-fashioned street lanterns here.

Lion

In other words, This is the capital of the Last Empire.

Channel

The monumental building of parliament is surrounded with straight walls of the channel.

Riksdag (House of Parliament)

It is really a palace.

Sunrise

We have met the sunrise with the Hermes bronze statue. It is wearing only sandals and the helmet.

Old city street

Rocky streets of the old city.

Flowers

The tiny park is ornate with flowers.

Bicycle lane

And the cycle roads are before start of traffic.

Old-fashioned motorcycle.

The vintage motorcycle is parked in the picturesque cobbled street.

Bus from Russia

We have met the Russian tourists. It seemed to me there are more of them in Antalya than in Northland.

Defining route

It’s time! We have to plan the next route.

Street cafe

But the comfortable caf? looks so seducing.

Chik of sparrow

We have found the poult of sparrow. I believe he survived that day!

Sconce

At last, the most famous sightseeing of Stockholm is the Skansen. This is the first open-air museum in the world.

Then we have driven across the Denmark from one coast to another. And we’ve arrived to Elsinore (Helsing?r). This is a beautiful town of growing roses in the ancient streets.

4 July. Denmark. Copenhagen

Next day our route led us to the ferry!

The sea is overboard

It looks like its twin-brother.

Ferryboat

Honestly it has been a little cultural shock. I think a ferry is a raft, which needs to be pulled with a rope to get over the opposite side. The local ferries are different. This is a giant handsome vessel, which is able to produce good speed on the tough sea waves and carry a lot of cars and people. On the ferry you can eat and drink, stare on the seagulls and relax before the next episode of trip. This path has led us to the capital of the Denmark  Copenhagen, which locals are called K?benhavn.

Copenhagen

This is a beautiful and peaceful city. It is very nice to wander through its embankments and stare at the bikers or the pleasure boats.

Recognizable poster

Judging by the posters, local cinemas are showing the same as Kyiv’s does.

The street

There is water instead of the cobblestone street, and the yachts instead of the houses.

The lady riding a bike

The amount of blondies in the Copenhagen is just a little bit smaller than in Stockholm. Most of them ride a bicycle.

3 July. The beginning of The Raid. Part Two

Let’s continue the story about raid Paris-Cap Nord.

Researching roadbook

That is how a raid begins. Firstly the leader of our crew reads the objective, makes a route, programs a navigator and… up we go. A roadbook  is a collection of the road lists for every day of the trip.

Ukrainian region Volyn

This sticker follows us through entire trip and symbolizes that we can’t get out of our roots. No matter how far our silver hybrid Toyota Prius with French numbers can take us.
The coat of arms of Volyn points about support us from the Volyn’s brotherhood in Kyiv.

Up we go

Our adventure is starting. It’s raining. There are the traffic jams, dogs and bikers everywhere. But nothing can stop our movement to the North-East from Paris through Belgium to Germany. First halt is at the camping in Bramsche.

Bramsche. Germany

A night is still dark (meaning of these words will be revealed later). At this moment there are the fantastic German roads, a magnificent dawn and the friendly German camping with a showers, the charging pillars and a lot of green grass. Tomorrow we will proceed.
Somehow I have remembered the merry local women laughing and staring at the bunch of our cars from the far side of the fence.
